Nanzha Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located at Xiaohaizi, Bachu County, Xinjiang.It was named by Xiong Jianfei in 1991.
Lithology and Thickness
Limestone. Composed of grey medium- and thick-bedded micrite, intercalated with calcareous shale. Thickness is about 80 m
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Disconformable contact is inferred with the underlying Xiaohaizi Fm of the Carboniferous System because of an indistinct difference in lithology between them and the lacking in the strata of the Kasimovian, Gzhelian and part of Moscovian Stages of the Late Carboniferous Epoch. However, Carboniferous Lexicon for Xiaohaizi Fm assigns it to the Kasimovian-Gzhelian (and into earliest Permian), which implies that these uppermost Carboniferous Stages are present.
Upper contact
Conformable contact with the siltstone layer at the base of the overlying Aqia Gr.

Fossils
Fusulinida fossils represented by the Eoparafusulina-Sphaeroschwagerina-Nankinella assemblage, and Conodonts represented by the Sweetognathus whitei-Neostreptognathodus pequopensis assemblage.

Depositional setting
It is interpreted as a shallow-sea platform facies.
